I have never owned a bird but I am anxious to own one. I am in school from 8 25 a.m. to 2 30 p.m. but I leave around 7 45 a.m. and get back around 3 00 pm. That is a full school day but if I were to participate in any extracurricular activities, I would say the latest would most likely be 4 45. Is this to long to leave a bird? I am willing to spend hours with my bird, thoroughly cleaning for the bird, feeding special diets, training and much more. I have worked with an Umbrella Cockatoo named Cookie at for 3 weeks previous and he is an amazing bird. He is the reason (one of them) that I am so anxious to get a bird. I am highly interested in getting a Macaw (mini or regular), Cockatoo (large or small), African Grey or an Amazon. However I am mainly interested in a Large or Extra Large bird. I live in a house and noise is not a problem for me. Would a more advanced bird be right for me?
Answer:
Hello Carissa,
I think your enthusiasm speaks for itself! I think it sounds like you’d be a great parrot owner. I wouldn’t go for a Cockatoo necessarily (and if you did, I would suggest one of the smaller types) since they are more affected than other birds by being left alone.
God bless,
Michelle Jay
