Smells Sensitivity

Smells Sensitivity

What smells or fragrances are not good for sun conures and mini macaws?

Answer:

Hi Barbara,

All pet birds actually have a very sensitive sense of smell and respiratory tract.

I don’t recommend using any type of scents around pet birds – this includes candles, incense, air freshener sprays or plug ins, and even cleaning supplies, nail polish remover, or simply giving them a fragranced facial tissue to play with.

Strong scents can lead to congestion and wheezing in pet birds and in the case of serious oversight, even death.

So, just be careful with strong (and sometimes even mild) scents and watch your birds for any signs of irritation.

God bless,

Michelle Jay
