Won’t play with toys

Won’t play with toys

My African Gray is very tame and interacts with me and almost anyone else. My problem is she gets bored when on her own and does not seem interested in any toys I offer her.

Hi P,

This is a great question!

Honestly, some birds just don’t enjoy playing with toys. I do think it’s important, though, to definitely put in some effort to see if there is a certain type of toy your bird prefers. For example, my Goffin’s Cockatoo only likes shredding toys and doesn’t touch wood or foraging toys.

I suggest getting a couple of each of the different types of toys found on this page to see if your bird prefers any of them:

If not, then interaction with her will be very important as it is difficult for her to be independent.

God bless,
